What I've Been Up To: I attended the NSA/Brooke DEG-1 Reunion in Branson,MO the week of 2-7 September. Steve Hunt & Linda did an outstanding job in setting up all the functions of the combined reunion. The tours were great, very enjoyable and well organized due to their efforts. I had a great time and met only a few shipmates. They were the loyal ones to the Sonarmen association. I was very dissappointed about the low turnout of the SONARMAN at the combined reunion. SIX (6) of almost four hundred (400) NSA members attended the event. How can we have a good reunion if only a few show up? Where sre your commitments to the mission of the NSA? If all of us want join the NSA why not support it by getting involved. Send suggestions to help keep our association from being dissolved. Remember Sonarmen were picked from the top 10% of the Navy so we have an abundance of talent to help keep the association going for many years to come. Please send your suggestions to the NSA officers listed on the back page of the PINGJOCKEY so our officers can input you ideas.

What I've Been Up To: Retired about 5 years ago after 40 yrs as a computer analyst / project mgr with various companies...a great career and I owe it all to the Navy for preparing me both mentally and technically for my life after USN. Navy taught me responsibility, how to be a team member AND a leader.
Duty Stations: After A School, only one: USS Vance DER-387 from April 1965 - June 1967. As some of you may recall, Vance CO, LCDR Marcus Arnheiter was relieved of command after only 99 days. Read Neil Sheehan's book, "The Arnheiter Affair", it's all true, every word. My last year our sonar gang consisted of 4 3rd class & 2 strikers but we managed to keep all the gear up and running. Made E5 on 1st increment but didn't have a full year left on enlistment & wouldn't extend for 4 mo so I could "sew it on". All in all, Navy was a great experience.
